LaserVue Shipping
It’s been a busy week for laser tv news on the web. To sum things up, Mitsubishi is now shipping its 65-inch LaserVue laser television to select retailers in North America. Most articles rehash the LaserVue’s top selling points: “twice the color and half the power.”
A few articles recount the tech lounge head-to-head comparison with a Pioneer Kuro. Read more here. I look forward to more direct comparisons with other plasma and lcd models (recently price-reduced) and news on the wider release in 2009.

Finally! BUT… (in my opinion) the pricing is still way to high for a glorified projection TV. Projection TV’s have been running about 1/2 or less the cost of LCD/Plasma for a long time even though (again, in my opinion) they have better pictures.

I’ve done everything I can think of including calling Mitz themselves. Totally useless!! Either they are holding back because of bugs or it’s simply supply vs demand. With the hassels of the DLP looming I really wonder if it’s the bugs.
The only other explanation could be the economy….who can afford a $7,000.00 set now anyway? Perhaps they are waiting for the Super Bowl crunch too.
Frustrating!

Does anybody know where I can view (midwest) one of these TVs? I used Mitsubishi’s product locator and set it to 300 miles and it still comes up with nothing. I agree with Lee H, at these prices laser TV is doomed now that LCD and Plasma are being deeply discounted. The appropriate price for the 65″ should be no more than $3999.

All good things come to he/she who waits.
How Much was the first Plasma, In Australia it was like $75,000 dollars. Through a World Down turn just wait a little longer. The reviews in Vagas Show were unblievable. Just A little longer Dudes. Price and size will come down I am sure.

I was able to obtain the 65 inch LaserVue to do a review for a magazine. I am not a technical person so these comments are how a consumer may react to this new process.
First impression, the brightness, definition and color were superior to my 60 inch @2,000 Vizio 720 plasma receiver. I don’t have a 1080 P receiver.
But for most people paying $5,000 more than a similar size plasma is too much. The viewing angle is better than the typical DLP. It is light weight, and claimed to use much less power. I didn’t notice any rainbow effects. It is not 4 inch deep like the plasma, it is just over 10 inches. I don’t believe most people would see a great difference between the regualar 65 inch DLP which can be purchases for under $2,000 than the $7,000 laservue. I believe the Laservue price will drop under $4,000 within a year. The 73 inch LaserVue will have little competition, so they will be able to keep the price high.
